About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead and develop FLSmidth's Rest-of-World Product Expert group
- Manage a team of 16 engineers, designers and parts specialists across EMEA, APAC and CA&I
- Provide senior technical authority for separation products, especially flotation, and complex cross-product upgrade and retrofit engineering
- Ensure timely, high-quality engineering and technical support to internal and external stakeholders
- Drive spare parts technical management, machine upgrade design, drafting and documentation standards
- Review and approve novel work, complex upgrade scopes and group and contractor deliverables
- Lead design, fatigue, hydraulics, drive analysis, RCA, FMEA, remaining-life assessments, site investigations, audits and failure investigations
- Own and develop the group's operating model, workflow, engineering governance framework and AI strategy
- Lead product improvement initiatives and strategic aftermarket initiatives
- Harmonise ways of working with NAMER and SAMER Product Expert groups
- Own capability architecture, skill-domain profiling and checking and approval authority mapping
- Plan capacity and workload across regions, product lines and time zones
- Manage headcount planning, role definitions, business cases, grading, succession and critical technical authority positions
- Manage shared CAD and drafting resources and maintain drawing, drafting and documentation standards
- Oversee outsourced and externally licensed engineering resources and statutory compliance for brownfield work
- Prepare, monitor and manage the group budget
- Lead performance management, development, coaching and succession planning
- Maintain technical standards, design quality governance and accurate engineering records
- Support safety culture, accountability and FLSmidth's Zero Harm vision
- Report to the Head of Thickening, Centrifuges & Wet Process – SP&M, with a dotted line to GSLH – Crushing & Feeding / Milling & Grinding
Requirements
What you’ll need- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar
- Chartered, RPEQ or equivalent
- Minimum 15 years' experience in mining, mineral processing or heavy industry, including mechanical or technical management roles
- Deep separation knowledge and broad multi-product exposure
- Experience in upgrade and retrofit engineering in brownfield and mixed-OEM environments
- Experience with structural, hydraulic and drive-train analysis, RCA, FMEA and condition monitoring
- Proficiency in Enovia, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, FEA and analytical tools
- Spare parts technical management experience, including BOM, parts identification, RSPL, FTS and install-base management
- Demonstrated leadership of a distributed technical team across regions and time zones, including coaching, delegation and accountability
- Strong ability to prioritise, analyse problems and make sound decisions under pressure
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management and negotiation skills
- Ability to build relationships, manage risk, work through ambiguity and drive business improvement
- Customer-focused mindset with strong attention to quality and service delivery
