About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Drive the project team in realizing project-specific requirements using existing functionalities, including controls, application modes, grid integration and related systems and processes
  • Integrate the Fluence BESS control system into Transmission System Operator EMS systems
  • Develop logic and control schemes for remote and local BESS operation to meet TSO requirements
  • Work with field engineers to resolve controls-related problems during system commissioning and testing
  • Support product development engineering for utility-scale energy storage solutions, including development, implementation and testing of controls applications
  • Develop standardized FAT/SAT test procedures and execute tests to reduce commissioning time
  • Participate in hands-on lab testing during prototype system evaluations
  • Interface with clients and subcontractors to support controls compliance during tender and project execution
  • Develop and maintain documentation for controls infrastructure, including hardware, applications, protocols, communication links, and backup and recovery strategies
  • Maintain change-control procedures and documentation
  • Monitor industry best practices and technology developments for controls services
  • Support company strategy and provide reports and updates to company leadership
  • Develop and recommend performance management and feedback for controls technical-support KPIs
  • Execute tasks related to Fluence safety KPIs
  • Travel throughout EMEA

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s / Master’s degree in computer / industrial engineering with focus on automation and controls (or equivalent)
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant Controls / Software / programming experience with a power utility or related industry and the design, operation and maintenance of a power plant
  • Extensive knowledge in the electricity transmission/distribution sector and EMS systems
  • Knowledge of grid codes and requirements analysis, and development and testing of algorithms for Grid services applications
  • Extensive knowledge of SCADA protocols: IEC60870-5-101/103/104, IEC 61850 MMS, DNP3, Modbus and TCP/IP, PLC, RTUs, SEL RTAC, SEL relays and meters, Siemens relays and meters, SCADA gateways and data concentrators
  • Experience in Linux-based systems and commands
  • Experience with Python and shell/bash scripting
  • Experience with GitHub
  • Experience in MathWorks Simulink for model-based systems engineering
  • Experience with C/C++
  • Experience designing, operating and maintaining high-voltage electrical equipment, including inverters, transformers, I/O racks, telecommunications and controllers
  • Solution-oriented mindset
  • Good communication skills
  • Fluency in English
  • German or other language skills desired
