About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform preregistration, registration, patient financial counseling, and collection of patient liabilities and copayments
  • Coordinate Patient Access functions with medical staff, revenue cycle, nursing, and ancillary departments
  • Collect demographic and financial information for medical record generation
  • Distribute required information to patients or their representatives
  • Ensure patient information meets quality, regulatory, and HIPAA standards
  • Interview patients and families to obtain registration information and enter accurate data without duplicating existing medical records
  • Enter insurance policy, group, address, telephone, billing, and clinical data
  • Identify patient liabilities, obtain pre-service payments, counsel patients on payer financial waivers, and process copayment collections
  • Complete computer and telephone preregistrations to maintain patient flow

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Required High School Diploma/GED OR Required Professional/Vocational/Trade Training
  • Must be able to work rotating weekends and holidays
  • Must be able to cover Michigan City, IN Emergency room and Chesterton, IN Emergency department
  • Up to 50% travel is required
  • Ability to compassionately engage in conversation with patients regarding copayments, prepayments, and outstanding balances
  • Knowledge of registration, insurance, billing, financial, and clinical data collection procedures
  • Ability to complete computer and telephone pre-registrations
  • Ability to meet HIPAA, federal, and state regulatory standards
