About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide ongoing support to the same child during weekday afternoon sessions
- Support approximately 9 hours per week during term time and approximately 12 hours per week during school holidays
- Learn and respond to the child’s personality, routines, needs and individual ways of communicating
- Support the child around water in a specialist pool
- Work as part of a 2:1 staffing arrangement alongside another support worker
- Maintain consistent support and relationships with the child and family
Requirements
What you’ll need- At least 2 years’ experience supporting children and young people with neurodiverse needs, including experience relevant to autism, ADHD, PDA or learning disabilities
- Experience supporting children with complex needs and behaviours of concern
- Patient approach recognising behaviour as communication, including ways pre-verbal or non-verbal children may express their needs
- Experience providing personal care and supporting with medication, or willingness to complete relevant training before undertaking these tasks
- Caring, reliable and resilient approach
- Ability to build a positive, consistent relationship with the child and family
- Good communication skills and ability to maintain accurate records
- Willingness to complete mandatory training, the appropriate Enhanced DBS check and registration with the DBS Update Service
- Ability to swim and confidence supporting the child around water
- Level 3 qualification in Health and Social Care or equivalent preferred but not essential
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle helpful
- Experience in a special school, or using PECS or Makaton, welcome
