About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Drive benefits program execution and contribute to strategy, design, administration, compliance, financial management, and employee experience
  • Own the annual planning, renewal, and enrollment cycles
  • Evaluate plan design, cost structures, eligibility, employee contributions, utilization, market trends, and regulatory changes
  • Prepare strategy recommendations and decision materials for executive leadership and benefit or retirement plan committees
  • Build, manage, and monitor the benefits budget, forecasts, cost drivers, and trends
  • Lead vendor evaluations, RFPs, contract negotiations, implementations, and vendor relationships
  • Oversee annual enrollment, quality reviews, issue resolution, and post-enrollment reconciliation
  • Oversee health, welfare, retirement, voluntary benefits, eligibility, enrollments, life events, beneficiary changes, terminations, and continuation coverage
  • Ensure accurate benefit deductions, contributions, funding files, invoices, and carrier payments
  • Resolve complex coverage, claims, eligibility, leave, and vendor issues while protecting employee privacy
  • Maintain plan documentation, procedures, employee materials, and required records
  • Oversee benefits systems, integrations, data feeds, testing, payroll deductions, eligibility rules, communications, and go-live readiness
  • Administer leave, disability, accommodations, return-to-work, and workers' compensation programs
  • Manage workers' compensation intake, reporting, claims, employee guidance, and carrier coordination
  • Lead return-to-work and transitional duty efforts
  • Partner with Employee Relations and Legal on accommodations and applicable laws
  • Monitor claims, loss trends, vendor performance, premium drivers, compliance, and program effectiveness
  • Implement wellness initiatives, campaigns, events, incentives, communications, and employee assistance access
  • Coordinate required filings, disclosures, notices, reporting, testing, audits, and corrective actions
  • Support benefits and retirement plan governance, fiduciary documentation, committees, and regulatory requirements
  • Manage brokers, consultants, carriers, third-party administrators, and benefit vendors
  • Partner with Legal, Risk, Information Security, Privacy, and Procurement on compliance and data protection
  • Lead, coach, and develop the benefits team
  • Establish processes, controls, documentation, cross-training, and succession planning
  • Advise leaders, managers, and employees on benefits programs and complex matters
  • Lead change management and communications for program enhancements, vendor transitions, policy updates, and enrollment

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in benefits, total rewards, or HR
  • 3+ years of leadership experience managing employees, vendors, projects, or cross-functional initiatives
  • Experience administering health and welfare, retirement, leave, disability, accommodation, workers' compensation, and wellness programs in California
  • Experience managing benefit budgets, renewals, annual enrollment, vendor implementations, and program operations
  • Experience with benefits administration systems, HRIS platforms, payroll integrations, reporting, and data management
  • Experience supporting audits, regulatory reporting, and governance activities
  • CEBS, CBP, SHRM-SCP, SPHR, or similar certifications are a plus
  • Experience in banking, financial services, or another regulated industry preferred
  • Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods
  • Frequent use of a computer and other office equipment
  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and customers
  • Ability to occasionally move or lift items up to 10 pounds
