About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Serve as a technical accounting resource for staff accountants and business partners
  • Provide guidance on accounting policies, procedures, and best practices
  • Lead and perform complex accounting activities, including general ledger maintenance, loan accounting, cash and liquidity-related accounting, account reconciliations, investments, fixed assets, and regulatory reporting
  • Prepare and post complex journal entries and verify general ledger accuracy and completeness
  • Perform monthly and quarterly account reconciliations and variance analyses
  • Prepare or review financial statements, management reports, and regulatory reports, including Call Reports and local agency reporting schedules
  • Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and regulatory requirements
  • Research and resolve complex accounting discrepancies and escalate significant or unresolved matters
  • Provide accounting support for system conversions, updates, regulatory changes, new products, and general ledger or product-code implementations
  • Maintain knowledge of accounting standards, banking regulations, reporting requirements, and industry best practices
  • Develop and maintain procedures, reconciliations, workpapers, and documentation
  • Support internal and external audits and regulatory examinations
  • Identify control exceptions, reconciliation differences, and unusual accounting activity, and communicate findings to management
  • Lead or participate in accounting projects, process improvements, system enhancements, special projects, and system upgrades
  • Promote knowledge sharing, cross-training, and cross-functional partnership

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Minimum of three years of progressively responsible accounting experience, preferably in a banking or financial services environment
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and familiarity with bank regulatory requirements
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting software systems
  • Experience with Fiserv Prologue, Frontier, MSP, Fiserv Premier, or similar financial systems is preferred
  • High level of integrity and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet established deadlines
  • Strong analytical, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and identify matters requiring escalation
  • Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks, including typing and numerical data entry, and use a computer for extended periods
  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and business partners
  • Ability to occasionally move or lift items up to 10 pounds
