About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Advise and collaborate with clients to resolve application issues, understand their business needs, and deliver solutions throughout the project lifecycle
Analyze, design, program, and test IBM i applications using all versions of RPG and SQL
Maintain application integrity through unit, integration, validation ("smoke tests"), and other testing phases
Translate system architecture into clear documentation for technical and non-technical audiences
Provide guidance to a small technical team as needed
Conduct code reviews for database and application logic changes
Help clients transform their legacy applications into modern, scalable ILE solutions
Lead the analysis, design, development, and maintenance of business-critical IBM i applications
Work independently while collaborating with a committed team

Requirements

What you’ll need

Significant, demonstrated experience with the IBM i platform (iSeries / AS/400)
Proficiency in the various forms of RPG, particularly RPGLE, including fully free-form syntax and embedded SQL
Advanced proficiency in DB2 application programming and database design
Strong understanding of modules, service programs, and binding directories
Comfortable with structured deployment and version control processes
Understanding of business operations in distribution, manufacturing, finance, or insurance
Ability to explain technical concepts to business stakeholders and developers
Experience with major IBM i ERP systems is an asset
Experience with RDi or other Eclipse-based development environments is an asset
Experience with Git or SVN in an IBM i environment is an asset
Experience with impact analysis tools is an asset
Experience integrating with APIs, JSON, XML, and tools such as GoAnywhere is an asset
