About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead creation and development of innovative product concepts and design solutions
- Define and communicate design vision and strategy aligned with company goals and market trends
- Conduct user research, gather insights, and apply user-centered design principles
- Oversee prototypes and mockups for usability testing and iterate designs based on feedback
- Collaborate with human factors, engineering, product management, manufacturing, and other stakeholders
- Prepare design specifications, CAD files, renderings, presentations, and engineering-transfer documentation
- Mentor junior designers and provide guidance on design best practices, tools, and processes
- Select materials and manufacturing processes while balancing cost, durability, sustainability, and aesthetics
- Establish and manage design timelines, resources, and deliverables
- Ensure projects are completed on time and meet user needs, business needs, and quality standards
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in industrial design
- 6-8+ years of industrial design experience
- Track record of leading design projects and delivering successful products
- Robust portfolio showcasing product designs from concept through production
- Experience collaborating with engineering, manufacturing, marketing, and other stakeholders in product development
- Experience managing or leading design projects and mentoring junior designers
- Ability to solve complex design challenges and innovate within budget, material, and regulatory constraints
- Experience presenting designs and concepts to stakeholders or management and incorporating feedback
- Deep understanding of industrial design fundamentals, including form, function, usability, ergonomics, and aesthetics
- Extensive knowledge of materials including plastics, metals, and composites
- Knowledge of manufacturing techniques including injection molding, CNC machining, and 3D printing
- Proficiency with 3D modeling and drafting software such as SolidWorks, Rhino, Autodesk Alias, CATIA, or similar
- Familiarity with rapid prototyping, model making, and physical and digital prototyping methods
- Understanding of the full product development process from ideation to production
- Strong sketching, rendering, and visual presentation skills
- Strong understanding of the Design Thinking process
- Experience designing solutions in the medical device field
- Ability to lift 25 lbs with or without accommodations
