About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Operate and monitor utility systems, including compressed gases, cooling towers, plant steam, chillers, boilers, HVAC, fire alarm systems, and utility tank farms
- Monitor equipment performance, conduct routine maintenance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure safety and regulatory compliance
- Analyze data to identify improvements, implement energy-saving measures, and optimize utility usage
- Perform basic preventive maintenance and assist senior operators with complex preventive maintenance
- Respond promptly to equipment failures and emergency conditions, including power outages, fire alarms, and critical equipment alarms
- Monitor and maintain compressed gas inventory
- Operate and monitor the site building management system (BMS) and Delta V
- Monitor chemical levels in boiler feed water, cooling tower water, and plant steam
- Operate and monitor the waste neutralization system
- Maintain accurate records and assist with corrective actions for non-compliance
- Support process improvements and continuous improvement initiatives
- Support site operations and emergency work orders during off-hours
- Perform other assigned duties
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School Diploma/GED
- 1–2 years of experience in Utility Operations or a related field
- Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems
- Ability to operate equipment and hand tools
- Effective written and oral communication
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements for pharmaceutical sites
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Strong organizational skills
- Must support a 24/7 manufacturing facility, including shifts, on-call, and weekends
- Preferred: Associate degree in mechanical, electrical, applied engineering, or industrial technology
- Preferred: Prior utility operations experience in a pharmaceutical manufacturing or industrial environment
- Preferred: Experience with data tracking software such as CMMS
- Ability to work in environments requiring respiratory protection, hearing protection, and Powered Industrial Truck or motor vehicle operation
- Ability to distinguish audible cues and colors, with 20/20 corrected vision
- Ability to climb ladders, scaffolding, and ramps
- Ability to stand or sit for up to 12 hours
- Ability to operate machinery and power tools
- Ability to move objects up to 33 pounds
- Ability to work in temperatures from 0–115°F, outdoor elements, enclosed spaces, and heights greater than 4 feet
