About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead the technical direction of the Data Platform and turn target architecture into a sequenced engineering plan
- Own Snowflake infrastructure and RBAC, ingestion patterns, Airflow orchestration, CI/CD, observability, and cost controls
- Make and record technical decisions and run the decision-document process
- Make final technical calls when the team cannot agree and escalate cross-domain decisions to the architecture review board
- Mentor engineers, spread knowledge, and establish a fast, deep review culture
- Define standards and reusable patterns for domain teams, Data Scientists, Analysts, and AI Agents
- Lead the platform side of the Athena-to-Snowflake migration, including source landing, reconciliation, cutover evidence, and legacy-platform decommissioning
- Own operational excellence with the Engineering Manager, including on-call quality, alert quality, incident follow-ups, runbooks, and disaster recovery
- Own platform security and governance controls with Security and Data Governance
- Manage technical relationships with platform vendors, including support cases, escalations, and roadmap input
- Explain technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders and data leadership
- Set and evolve standards for safe and consistent AI-assisted engineering using tools such as Claude and Copilot
- Work closely with the Principal Engineer to translate cross-domain architecture into a platform engineering plan and delivery
Requirements
What you’ll need- 8+ years in Data & Analytics
- Proven experience as a Senior/Tech Lead setting architectural direction for other engineers
- Deep, hands-on knowledge of Snowflake, ideally including Iceberg/open table formats and RBAC
- Advanced SQL, Python, and enterprise-grade dbt model development
- Experience designing end-to-end data pipelines combining batch, file-based, and streaming ingestion (Kafka/CDC) managed with Airflow orchestration
- Understanding of data security and governance, including PII handling and access control
- Strong infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD skills
- Track record of writing clear design documents, explaining technical risks to non-technical stakeholders, and making decisions under uncertainty
- Ability to architect custom AI solutions and smart automated systems that are safe, maintainable, and aligned with the long-term mission
- Ability to act as a technical bridge and mentor, training builders across the company from basic AI usage to sophisticated system creation
- Skills in data contracts (ODCS/ODPS), data product portals, and lineage tools are desirable
- Experience in a regulated financial services company is desirable
- Experience leading a migration or large platform change is desirable
- PySpark or other distributed processing experience is desirable
