About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support Gateway Services' operations across the Central region
  • Build trusted working relationships with Managing Directors, Regional Managers, Care Center Managers and Team Members
  • Understand operational priorities and safety challenges, provide practical advice and help resolve routine H&S matters
  • Conduct workplace inspections, audits, job-hazard assessments and exposure assessments
  • Identify unsafe conditions, work methods and behaviors; recommend controls, PPE and preventive actions; and follow corrective actions through completion
  • Respond to workplace incidents and vehicle accidents, gather facts and evidence, support investigations, identify contributing causes and recommend preventive actions
  • Collaborate with Operations, Fleet, HR and other Gateway partners on cross-functional incidents
  • Provide field information and local support following workplace injuries
  • Help implement approved return-to-work plans and identify barriers to safe, sustainable returns
  • Implement safety policies, tools, campaigns and learning programs
  • Support safety discussions and committees, reinforce safe Care Center practices, and help managers address CSR driving safety and incident prevention
  • Maintain regional safety information and analyze incident, hazard and assessment trends to identify recurring risks and recommend improvements
  • Travel to Gateway Care Centers and other operational locations, dividing time between computer-based work and field visits
  • Occasionally respond outside normal working hours following serious incidents or urgent field matters

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Safety Engineering, Environmental Health, Environmental Engineering or a related field
  • At least four years of relevant safety experience, ideally in manufacturing, distribution or another multi-site operational environment
  • Experience with workplace inspections, incident investigations and job-hazard analysis
  • Working knowledge of applicable H&S requirements and accurate recordkeeping
  • Ability to assess hazards and recommend practical controls
  • Strong communication skills and ability to explain safety requirements to operational leaders and frontline Team Members
  • Sound judgment, calm response to urgent situations and dependable follow-through
  • Comfort working independently across a geographically dispersed territory
  • Fleet safety experience, exposure to safety or environmental management systems, and a relevant occupational H&S certification or designation are assets rather than requirements
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 50%
  • New employees must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check
