About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead technical architecture and solution design for AI and automation opportunities across GBG
- Translate business requirements into practical, deliverable technical solutions
- Assess and recommend approaches involving AI, conventional automation, workflow optimisation, integration and enterprise capabilities
- Establish reusable solution patterns, components and integration approaches
- Provide technical leadership to the central AI & Automation engineering team, including permanent employees and contractors
- Own technical estimates, engineering quality, solution design decisions and technical delivery readiness
- Participate in prototyping, design reviews, code reviews, troubleshooting and resolving complex engineering challenges
- Plan technical delivery with the project manager, allocate engineering capacity, manage dependencies and meet milestones
- Partner with business owners and functional SMEs to validate solution designs and intended outcomes
- Collaborate with Technology, data and infosec teams on architecture, security, privacy and governance requirements
- Establish engineering standards for testing, AI reliability, human oversight, monitoring, deployment and support
- Evaluate platforms, tools and third-party solutions to promote reuse and avoid unnecessary complexity or cost
- Ensure production deployment, documentation, operational ownership and support arrangements
- Identify technical dependencies and enabling capabilities for future opportunities
- Develop internal engineering capability through coaching, knowledge sharing and consistent technical practices
- Support measurement of solution performance and effectiveness to validate expected business benefits
Requirements
What you’ll need- Proven experience designing and delivering enterprise AI and automation solutions from concept through to live
- Strong solution architecture expertise covering AI technologies, workflow automation, system integration, APIs and cloud-based applications
- Hands-on experience implementing AI solutions using large language models, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), AI-assisted workflows or agentic capabilities
- Ability to translate business priorities into practical technical solutions and drive successful implementation
- Delivery-focused ownership of technical outcomes while balancing pace, quality and sustainability
- Practical experience with enterprise automation technologies and integrating solutions across existing business systems
- Strong engineering knowledge, including solution design, testing, deployment, monitoring and operational support
- Experience leading technical teams and providing architectural direction while remaining actively involved in engineering delivery
- Ability to design reusable and scalable solutions supporting multiple business processes and functions
- Strong understanding of infosec, data protection, AI reliability and governance controls
- Experience working in complex enterprise environments with multiple technology platforms and stakeholders
- Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to business leaders and non-technical stakeholders
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure, Power Platform, Copilot Studio, Python, .NET or similar enterprise technologies
- Microsoft Foundry experience desirable
