About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Work onsite at one or more hospital locations in and around the Reston, VA service area
- Respond to service calls to evaluate, diagnose, repair, and perform planned maintenance on progressively complex biomedical equipment
- Perform safety and environmental inspections and maintain effective customer relations
- Follow and guide others regarding GE policies, procedures, hospital protocol, and necessary documentation
- Communicate and partner with teammates and colleagues
- Establish proactive daily communications with customers to ensure resolution, proper follow-up, and customer satisfaction
- Implement GE/customer facility contracts to support business goals and objectives
- Lead, instruct, and assist technicians on basic and complex repairs and resolution
- Provide efficient service delivery to all accounts within the assigned area
- Share on-call/pager responsibility
- Document repair actions and submit reports/summaries according to schedule
- Care for spares, tools, and test equipment; ensure calibration
- Maintain approved parts inventory
- Manage vendors' service delivery processes in compliance with GE policies
- Maintain technical knowledge of current standards, codes, and procedures regarding safe and effective medical equipment use
- May perform Site Leader duties, including directing fellow Biomedical Technicians and participating in customer site activities
- Meet Health and Human Services, Environment Health and Safety, and other applicable regulatory requirements
Requirements
What you’ll need- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field and 2+ years of experience servicing medical equipment; OR equivalent military education and 2+ years of experience servicing electrical or mechanical equipment; OR High School Diploma/GED and 4+ years of experience servicing medical equipment
- Analytical and communication skills with the ability to communicate technical issues to the customer in an easy to understand manner
- Willingness to be available "after hours", or work a rotating On-Call schedule, including weekends, for critical issues and coverage, as necessary
- Able to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 35 lbs. unassisted
- Frequently able to bend, stoop, twist, climb, crouch/squat, kneel/crawl, sit and stand for long periods
- Able to reach at, above and below shoulder level, flex/extend neck, and have good hand and finger dexterity
- Specific vision abilities may include color, close, distance, peripheral, and depth perception
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
- GE HealthCare will not sponsor employment visas
