Consulting Engineer

About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide strategic technical input to technology strategy and Multi-Generational Product Plans
- Lead technical risk assessments of products and systems using processes such as DFMEA and Product Safety Reviews
- Lead key design gate reviews and govern review processes, tools, participants, and follow-up actions
- Establish effective measures for long-term engineering design review execution
- Lead or participate in Patent Evaluation Boards to protect competitive technology and intellectual property
- Represent the business at conferences and professional working bodies such as IEC and CIGRE
- Approve technical publications before submission
- Maintain relationships with academic institutions and promote research projects and academic cooperation
- Provide technical guidance to Engineering and Technology leadership, including customer negotiations, supplier audits, and critical technical rescues
- Safeguard design quality and organize and communicate lessons learned
- Lead or mentor engineering process improvement initiatives, including Root Cause Analysis
- Champion lean awareness across the technical community
- Rotate chairpersonship for the Grid Solutions Competency Council
- Develop and deliver structured technical training schemes
- Support staff development and succession planning
- Participate in promotion and hiring interviews up to Principal Engineer level
- Mentor and coach high-potential Engineering talent across business lines
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science
- At least 15 years of experience in an engineering capacity
- Preferably having taken a Principal Engineer role
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
- Able to pursue Engineering integrity in adverse conditions
- Able to interface effectively with all levels of the organization
- Lean experience preferred
- Legally authorized to work in the United States
- Successful completion of a drug screen, as applicable
