About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Serve as the technical point of contact throughout the Inquiry to Order (ITO) phase
  • Develop technical solutions for high-voltage substations and grid engineering/design during the pre-ITO process
  • Ensure the accuracy of technical proposals, including specifications, single-line diagrams, physical layouts, protection diagrams, AC/DC load sizing, clarifications, exceptions, deliverables, bills of materials, and cost estimates
  • Perform basic high-voltage substation studies to validate proposed specifications and designs
  • Provide technical support for subcontractor and electrical equipment bid packages
  • Support the commercial team with technical customer presentations
  • Design and implement methodologies, templates, and libraries to improve cost-estimating accuracy and efficiency
  • Write technical specifications for equipment and services and manage vendor quotations and responses with the project management and sourcing teams
  • Collaborate with the Proposal Manager, applications engineering team, and multidisciplinary engineers on EPC estimates for utility, industrial, and renewable substations; protection and control (P&C); systems and communications; balance of plant (BOP); FACTS; and HVDC projects
  • Deliver technically high-quality, compliant, effective, and cost-competitive proposals while reducing overall performance risk
  • Contribute to winning bid strategies through an understanding of market conditions and customer economics
  • Apply engineering judgment to solve moderately complex technical and operational problems
  • Build consensus and influence stakeholders within the area of expertise

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent technical degree
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in substation/electrical design, studies, specifications, estimating, and construction for substation, transmission, or power generation projects
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in technical proposal writing and proposal management
  • Fluency in spoken and written French and English; bilingual French/English required
  • Willingness to travel up to 20%, potentially internationally, and comply with company travel and tax policies
  • Experience developing proposals for large and complex high-voltage substations
  • Experience with turnkey high-voltage substation solutions and EPC/EPCI projects, including civil works
  • Expertise in power transmission and distribution systems, electrical substations, and protection devices
  • Experience estimating engineering design packages, including drawings, calculations, studies, and bills of materials
  • Experience with power system studies and medium-, high-, extra-high-, and ultra-high-voltage (MV/HV/EHV/UHV) equipment
  • Knowledge of project estimating methods and cost engineering principles
  • Knowledge of high- and extra-high-voltage substation physical design and construction, including foundation design and site preparation
  • Knowledge of substation protection and control schemes, SCADA, testing, commissioning, and maintenance
  • Experience in construction, field testing, and commissioning
  • Knowledge of and experience applying CSA, IEEE, ANSI, NEC, and NESC standards and codes
  • Working knowledge of power system automation, SCADA, and communications applications
  • P.Eng. or PE license in the United States or Canada preferred
