About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Serve as the technical point of reference throughout the Inquiry-to-Order (ITO) phase
  • Develop technical solutions for high-voltage substations and electrical grids
  • Ensure the accuracy of technical proposals, including equipment specifications, single-line diagrams, layout drawings, and AC/DC load sizing
  • Define clarifications and exceptions, quantify deliverables, define the scope of work, and estimate engineering, installation, testing, and commissioning costs
  • Conduct preliminary studies for high-voltage substations
  • Provide technical support for subcontractor and electrical equipment request-for-quotation packages
  • Support the commercial team during customer presentations of technical capabilities and proposals
  • Design and implement methodologies, templates, and libraries to improve cost-estimate accuracy and efficiency
  • Write technical specifications for equipment and services, and manage vendor quotations and responses with project management and sourcing teams
  • Collaborate with the Proposal Manager, application engineering team, and multidisciplinary engineers on EPC estimates for substations, protection and control, systems and communications, balance of plant (BOP), FACTS, and HVDC projects
  • Deliver high-quality, compliant, effective, and cost-competitive proposals while reducing overall performance risk
  • Contribute to winning bid strategies by understanding relevant markets and customer economic value
  • Apply best practices and knowledge of competitors and market differentiators
  • Use judgment to solve moderately complex technical and operational problems
  • Build consensus and influence stakeholders within the field

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent technical degree
  • At least 5 years of experience in the design, engineering, specification development, cost estimation, and construction of electrical substations, as well as in power transmission or generation projects for the energy sector
  • At least 2 years of experience in technical proposal writing and tender management
  • Availability to travel up to 20%, potentially including international travel
  • Fluency in spoken and written French and English; French-English bilingualism is mandatory
  • Experience developing proposals for large and complex high-voltage substation projects
  • Experience with full turnkey HV substation solutions, EPC, and EPCI projects, including civil works
  • Ability to develop technical strategies and improve bid success rates
  • Expertise in power transmission and distribution systems, electrical substations, and protection devices
  • Experience developing and estimating engineering design packages, including drawings, calculations, studies, and bills of materials
  • Experience with power system studies and MV/HV/EHV/UHV equipment
  • Knowledge of project estimating methods and cost engineering theory
  • Knowledge of HV/EHV substation physical and outdoor design and construction, including foundation design and site preparation
  • Knowledge of substation protection and control schemes, SCADA communication systems, factory and site testing, commissioning methods, and maintenance
  • Experience in construction, field testing, and commissioning
  • Knowledge of and experience with CSA, IEEE, ANSI, NEC, and NESC standards and codes
  • Working knowledge of power system automation equipment, SCADA applications, and communication applications
  • P.Eng./PE license in the United States or Canada preferred
