About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Design, develop, and maintain robust, real-time embedded software for microprocessor-based protection relays using C/C++
  • Work closely with Protection Engineers to implement complex mathematical algorithms in efficient, embedded-ready code
  • Optimize firmware performance for real-time execution and low-latency data processing for protection functions and IEC 61850 communication stacks
  • Test and profile firmware to ensure stability under extreme grid conditions
  • Implement secure coding practices and security features in compliance with IEC 62443
  • Use AI coding assistants for embedded C/C++ code generation, refactoring, and unit-test scaffolding
  • Write precise specifications and prompts for bounded, verifiable AI-generated code changes
  • Validate AI-generated code against real-time timing and memory constraints
  • Apply AI-assisted static analysis to safety-critical code reviews
  • Provide informal guidance to new team members

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Knowledge level comparable to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college, or a high school diploma with relevant experience
  • Expert-level proficiency in C and C++ for embedded environments
  • Knowledge of power system protection principles or digital signal processing (DSP)
  • Proficiency in Python for test automation
  • Knowledge of GitHub
  • Experience with real-time operating systems (VxWorks, FreeRTOS, QNX, or Embedded Linux)
  • Proficiency in English; French is mandatory for local collaboration
  • Preferred: experience with Model-Based Design (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink Coder)
  • Preferred: familiarity with Agile/Scrum and CI/CD pipelines for firmware
  • Preferred: prior experience in the energy, industrial, or aerospace sectors
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems
  • Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs
  • Established project management skills
