About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform testing, commissioning, inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, outage support, retrofit, and upgrade execution for FACTS/HVDC systems
- Diagnose and resolve issues involving electrical systems, power electronics, converter equipment, control and protection systems, cooling systems, auxiliary systems, and plant or grid interfaces
- Execute preventive and corrective maintenance according to approved procedures, technical manuals, quality requirements, and customer expectations
- Review schematics, wiring diagrams, logic diagrams, drawings, test procedures, and maintenance instructions
- Prepare field service reports, test records, punch lists, maintenance records, and technical findings
- Coordinate with customers and internal teams regarding work status, technical issues, site constraints, and recommended actions
- Support or lead field modifications, retrofits, upgrades, and corrective actions
- Lead root cause analysis, lessons learned, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Ensure compliance with environmental, health, safety, quality, and regulatory requirements
- Collaborate with engineering, project management, supply chain, quality, and service teams
- Lead resolution of complex or escalated technical issues affecting system performance, reliability, availability, or restoration
- Provide technical leadership for critical outages, plant recovery, major commissioning programs, retrofit execution, and high-risk site activities
- Define troubleshooting strategies, execution plans, commissioning sequences, recovery plans, and technical standards
- Support customers 24/7 with event troubleshooting
- Act as the primary technical escalation point across field service, engineering, project management, quality, and customer teams
- Lead major root cause investigations and influence corrective actions affecting product design, service processes, training, tendering, and installed-base support strategy
- Standardize and improve field service practices, work instructions, troubleshooting guides, and lessons learned
- Mentor and develop engineers across bands
- Provide expert technical input on lifecycle planning, obsolescence, reliability improvements, retrofit opportunities, technical risks, and service strategy
- Work at customer sites, substations, converter stations, industrial facilities, and other project locations
Requirements
What you’ll need- Master’s degree from an accredited university or college, or a high school diploma with significant relevant experience
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in field service, commissioning, maintenance, or troubleshooting of HVDC, FACTS, substations, power electronics, protection and control systems, or related utility/power transmission equipment
- Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally 75%
- Ability to work at customer sites during outages, extended shifts, weekends, or emergency conditions, where required
- Ability to comply with customer site access, training, and safety requirements
- Valid work authorization and ability to obtain necessary international travel documents
- Knowledge of electrical power systems and associated control, protection, and auxiliary systems
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, logic diagrams, and technical procedures
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work effectively at customer sites and across cross-functional teams
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively and support planned outages, emergency response, or urgent field events
- Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, and compliance
- May require standing for extended periods, climbing stairs or ladders, lifting equipment within approved safety limits, using personal protective equipment, and working in industrial environments
