About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead technical scope execution, design, and implementation of controls system projects for HMI and networking
  • Drive customer order fulfillment from commercial inquiry through customer acceptance and commercial operation
  • Support requisition, design, structuring, validation, and commissioning of control systems
  • Identify and mitigate technical risks across complete HMI and networking scope
  • Provide technical mentoring and direction to assigned functional controls engineers
  • Own technical execution for high-risk and complex projects
  • Support project and functional engineers in achieving schedules, milestones, customer deliverables, and regulatory compliance
  • Provide technical inputs for customer proposals
  • Influence new product and product-sustaining requirements
  • Drive architecture, top-level design, verification, validation, and commissioning requirements
  • Ensure system function, performance, interfaces, reliability, maintainability, and safety requirements through design reviews
  • Support development of system verification, validation, and customer test plans
  • Support site installation, startup, and commissioning
  • Coordinate customer requirements and tasks with functional engineers
  • Support Project Engineers in customer discussions and reviews
  • Drive consistent solutions across controls scope
  • Collaborate with internal and external customers
  • Enforce controls HMI and networking design standards and practices

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in power generation and/or process control design, HMI and industrial networking
  • Strong background in HMI application software including Proficy iFix, Cimplicity, and Historian based products
  • Recent experience working on complex Cisco network/HMI upgrades for steam turbine/gas turbine/balance of plant controllers with Modbus/GSM/OPC communication with installed DCS
  • Demonstrated ability to meet goals and objectives
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 15% of time, as required
  • Proven strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Master’s degree in engineering
  • Prior experience in Enhanced CDM, DLN Upgrades, Control Curve upgrades and other modification kits for Gas only/Dual-Fuel frame 6FA, 7FA, 7E, 9E, 9FA Gas Turbines on Mark V/VI/Vie controller platforms
  • Expertise in legacy HMI systems (Windows NT/XP/7) and Mark V/Mark VI Controllers
  • Prior experience performing software modifications for Mark V/Mark VI/Mark VIe Controllers for turbine applications
  • Experience in design and application of GE power generation controls, electrical, cyber, mechanical, or accessory systems
  • Experience implementing cyber security systems
  • Field installation experience for UCVx Upgrades, system integration/testing, and network upgrades
  • Experience with Cisco Shell, MS Office including Visio, VBA, RedHat Linux, Windows NT/XP/7, VMware, GE ControlST, GE eTCSS, Cimplicity, Proficy Machine Edition, National Instruments LabVIEW, MATLAB, MPLAB C, and software design practices for Mark V/VI/Vie controllers
  • Knowledge or understanding of Modbus, OPC, and TCP/IP communication protocols
  • CompTIA Network+ certification
  • Strong computer skills setting up Windows-based applications including Windows XP, Windows 2000, and Windows 7
  • Combined Cycle Power Plant design experience
  • Experience providing technical mentoring and oversight to less experienced engineers
  • Strong experience in power generation requisition, working with customers, project management, or EPCs
  • Proven oral and written communication and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated system-level thinking
  • Agile product development process experience
  • Experience in a matrix-structure organization and working cross-functionally
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
