About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Act as the technical point of reference throughout the Inquiry-to-Order (ITO) phase
- Develop technical solutions for high-voltage substations and electrical grids
- Ensure the accuracy of technical proposals, equipment specifications, single-line diagrams, layout drawings, and AC/DC load sizing
- Define clarifications, exceptions, deliverables, scope of work, and engineering, installation, testing, and commissioning cost estimates
- Conduct preliminary high-voltage substation studies
- Provide technical support for subcontractor and electrical equipment request-for-quote packages
- Support the commercial team in technical customer presentations
- Develop methodologies, templates, and libraries to improve cost-estimate accuracy and efficiency
- Write technical specifications for equipment and services and manage vendor quotes and responses with project management and sourcing
- Collaborate with the Proposal Manager, application engineering team, and multidisciplinary engineers on EPC estimates for substations, protection and control, systems and communications, BOP, FACTS, and HVDC projects
- Deliver technically high-quality, compliant, effective, and cost-competitive proposals while reducing performance risk
- Contribute to winning bid strategies through market and customer economic understanding
- Apply judgment to solve moderately complex technical and operational problems
- Build consensus and influence stakeholders within the area of expertise
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent technical degree
- At least 5 years of experience in design, engineering, specification development, cost estimation, and construction of electrical substations, as well as power transmission or generation projects for the energy sector
- At least 2 years of experience in technical proposal writing and tender management
- French and English fluency, spoken and written; bilingual French/English communication is mandatory
- Availability for up to 20% travel, potentially including international travel
- Experience with large and complex high-voltage substation project proposal development
- Experience with full turnkey HV substation solutions, EPC/EPCI, including civil works
- Expertise in power transmission and distribution systems, electrical substations, and protection devices
- Experience with engineering design packages, including drawings, calculations, studies, and bills of materials
- Experience with power system studies and MV/HV/EHV/UHV equipment
- Knowledge of project estimating methods and cost engineering theory
- Knowledge of HV/EHV substation physical design and construction, including foundation design and site preparation
- Knowledge of substation protection and control schemes, SCADA, testing, commissioning, and maintenance
- Knowledge of and experience using CSA, IEEE, ANSI, NEC, and NESC standards and codes
- Working knowledge of power systems automation, SCADA, and communication applications
- Preferred PE license in the United States or Canada
