About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Define the network configuration of an HVDC control system as part of a project delivery team
- Lead the configuration of IEC61850 IED’s via vendor-specific tools and System Configuration Tools for complete system integration
- Lead generation of Substation Configuration description Language (SCL) files
- Apply interlocking principles in substation automation systems and implement them on IEC61850 IED’s
- Lead design, configuration, and testing of HVDC Control System hardware
- Test and debug complex IEC61850 communication systems using IEDScout, Wireshark, and other industry-standard tools
- Coordinate and interface the HVDC Control System with Balance of Plant equipment and SCADA systems
- Define main IO Lists and analyze signal interfaces for compatibility with the control system
- Configure Remote Terminal Units (RTU), Bay Controllers (BCU), and Merging Units for signal acquisition in digital substations
- Design LAN networks and communication architectures; configure industrial Ethernet switches, routers, and satellite clocks
- Follow standard design practices, engineering reviews, and guidelines
- Define Control Panel requirements and produce detailed design documentation, including electrical schematics, wire/cable schedules, routine test specifications, general assembly drawings, and bills of materials
- Oversee Control System testing and FAT witnessing
- Prepare and present technical information to internal and external customers
- Assist with installation and commissioning site activities
- Maintain technical documentation in accordance with engineering policies and procedures
- Share engineering information and promote open dialogue
Requirements
What you’ll need- Degree in Electronics/Electrical engineering or related field
- Strong background in configuring Substation Bay Controllers/Merging Units/ IEC61850 IED’s
- Experience in Control Panel design (preferably as used in substation/power plant environments)
- Strong background in Distributed Control Systems / Substation Automation
