About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead overall requirements, design, implementation, and testing of digital HVDC Control & Protection systems, including network and cybersecurity design
  • Lead configuration of IEC61850 IEDs using vendor-specific and system configuration tools
  • Generate Substation Configuration Description Language (SCL) files for system integration
  • Apply sequencing and interlocking principles to substation automation systems and IEC61850 IEDs
  • Lead design, configuration, and testing of HVDC Control System hardware within schedule and budget
  • Test and debug complex IEC61850 communication systems using tools such as IEDScout and Wireshark
  • Implement, test, and install HMI/SCADA technologies
  • Coordinate HVDC Control Systems with Balance of Plant equipment and SCADA systems
  • Define control-system IO lists and analyze signal interfaces for compatibility
  • Lead configuration of RTUs, Bay Controllers, and Merging Units for digital substation signal acquisition
  • Design LAN networks and communication architectures; configure industrial Ethernet switches, routers, and satellite clocks
  • Follow standard design practices, engineering reviews, and guidelines
  • Define control-panel requirements and produce design documentation, including electrical schematics, wire/cable schedules, routine test specifications, assembly drawings, and bills of materials
  • Oversee Control System testing and FAT witnessing
  • Present technical information to internal and external customers
  • Assist with installation and commissioning site activities
  • Ensure proper documentation of project technical data
  • Coach and develop department talent
  • Continuously improve product delivery speed, stability, and reliability
  • Review and approve design documents and ensure quality, timely, and cost-targeted deliverables

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Degree in Electronics/Electrical engineering or related field
  • Strong background in configuring Substation Bay Controllers, Merging Units, IEC61850 IEDs, and HMI/SCADA technologies
  • Minimum of 8–10 years’ experience in control and protection system design
  • Knowledge of industrial communication networks such as IEC61850 and Ethernet-based protocols
  • Control & Protection Relay logics Design techniques
  • Experience developing electrical designs for industrial control systems
  • Knowledge of communication network security/hardening and cybersecurity best practices
  • Excellent knowledge of Layer 2 and Layer 3 protocols including IPv4, OSPF, LACP, DMZ, VPN, DMS/ADMS, DNP, IEC, and Modbus
  • Experience relevant to electrical power systems and substation automation engineering
  • Working knowledge of industrial and utility electrical control and protection systems, digital control systems, substation automation, and SCADA
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Ability to analyze and resolve problems
  • Ability to lead programs/projects
  • Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs
  • Established project management skills
  • Proven technical leadership in a complex system engineering development environment
