About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Support sales and business development by providing technical expertise for electrification solutions for EHV/HV substations
- Perform system design, material selection, and quantity estimation
- Execute project-related engineering activities and provide customer technical consultation
- Ensure proposed solutions meet customer needs, industry standards, safety regulations, quality requirements, and cost-efficiency objectives
- Prepare single-line diagrams, layout plans and sections, earthing layouts, DSLP layouts, trench layouts, and related plant/control-room documentation
- Perform electrical design calculations, including earthing, lightning, cable sizing, battery sizing, illumination, sag tension, short-circuit force, and busbar sizing
- Select and size project equipment according to IEEE/IEC standards
- Prepare distribution and auxiliary systems
- Evaluate vendor drawings, GTPs, calculations, and technical specifications
- Execute LV/MV engineering for collector, unit, and pooling substations
- Prepare tender drawings, BOQ estimates, RFQs, and evaluate components and pricing options
- Coordinate and integrate with Automation, Civil, and MEP teams
- Coordinate site and office teams for project execution
- Coordinate with GSI Global Engineering Centre and GSI regions/business lines as required
- Lead projects independently, handle clients, and guide/develop team members
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in electrical engineering or related field, from an accredited college or university
- Minimum of 12+ years of experience with Degree or 15+ years with Diploma in EHV/HV AIS & GIS Substation design
- Good understanding of power system components, including transformers, switchgear, and protection systems
- Knowledge of IEEE/IEC codes, safety in design/EHS aspects, and AC substation industry engineering practices
- Experience with HV primary designs for 132 kV and above GIS/AIS substation engineering
- Experience with earthing, lightning, cable sizing, battery sizing, illumination, sag tension, short circuit force, and busbar sizing calculations
- Experience with equipment selection/sizing and distribution/auxiliary systems
- Experience evaluating vendor drawings, GTPs, calculations, and technical specifications
- Experience with LV/MV engineering for collector, unit, and pooling substations
- Experience preparing ITO/tender drawings, BOQ estimates, RFQs, and component evaluations
- Ability to coordinate with Automation, Civil, and MEP teams
- Excellent communication, analytical, problem-solving, collaboration, client-handling, and team leadership skills
- Ability to guide and develop teams and expand competency domains
- Flexible for global travel
- Optional: FACTS project engineering, HVDC/FACTS integrated applications, CANECO, ETAP, CDGES or equivalent, and 3D design tools
