About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Support sales and business development by providing technical expertise in electrification solutions for EHV/HV substations
- Design systems, select materials, estimate quantities, and perform project engineering activities
- Conduct customer technical consultations
- Ensure proposed solutions meet customer needs, industry standards, safety regulations, quality requirements, and cost-efficiency objectives
- Execute work with associated workgroups to meet assigned objectives
- Make decisions within defined parameters and resolve moderately complex issues through immediate action or short-term planning
- Coordinate with GSI Global Engineering Centre, GSI Regions, and Business Lines according to project requirements
- Prepare basic Single Line Diagrams, layout plans and sections, equipment control room layouts, earthing layouts, DSLP layouts, and trench layouts
- Perform earthing, lightning, cable sizing, battery sizing, illumination system, sag tension, short circuit force, and bus-bar sizing calculations according to IEEE/IEC
- Select and size project equipment according to IEEE/IEC
- Prepare distribution and auxiliary systems
- Evaluate vendor drawings, GTPs, calculations, and technical specifications
- Perform LV/MV engineering for collector substations, unit substations, and pooling stations
- Prepare ITO/tender drawings, estimate BOQs, finalize RFQs, evaluate components, and select equipment with optimal pricing
- Coordinate and integrate with Automation, Civil, and MEP teams
- Coordinate site and office teams for project execution
- Lead projects independently, handle clients, and develop teams
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s Degree/ Diploma in electrical engineering or related field, from an accredited college or university
- Minimum of 12+ years of experience with Degree or 15+ years with Diploma in EHV/ HV AIS & GIS Substation design
- Good understanding of power system components (transformers, switchgear, protection systems) and renewable energy integration
- Excellent communication skills, capable of explaining complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to balance technical requirements and business needs
- Ability to work collaboratively across teams and with clients
- Ability to guide/groom team and execute project in line with client/project requirement
- Ability to expand the competency domain, being able to take new learning challenges
- Flexible for travel globally
- Know-how of IEEE / IEC codes, safety in design/EHS aspects, AC substation industry engineering practices
- HV (Primary) designs for 132 kV and above GIS/AIS Substation Engineering for Grid Interconnected Projects
- Experience with FACTS project engineering, such as STATCOM, FSC, or Synchronous Condenser (optional)
- Experience with HVDC/FACTS integrated project applications (optional)
- Competency with specialized tools like CANECO, ETAP, CDGES or equivalent (optional)
- Working experience with 3D Design Tools (optional)
