About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support sales and business development by providing technical expertise in electrification solutions for EHV/HV substations
  • Design HV primary systems for 132 kV and above GIS/AIS substation engineering for grid-interconnected projects
  • Prepare basic single-line diagrams, layout plans and sections, equipment control room layouts, earthing layouts, DSLP layouts, and trench layouts
  • Perform earthing design, lightning design, cable sizing, battery sizing, illumination system design, sag-tension calculations, short-circuit force calculations, and busbar sizing according to IEEE/IEC standards
  • Select and size project equipment according to IEEE/IEC standards
  • Prepare distribution and auxiliary systems
  • Evaluate vendor drawings, GTPs, calculations, and technical specifications
  • Perform LV/MV engineering for collector substations, unit substations, and pooling stations
  • Prepare ITO/tender drawings, estimate BOQs, finalize RFQs, evaluate components, and select equipment using cost-effective pricing options
  • Coordinate and integrate with Automation, Civil, and MEP teams
  • Coordinate site and office teams for project execution
  • Coordinate with the GSI Global Engineering Centre, GSI Regions, and Business Lines according to project requirements
  • Consult with customers and ensure proposed solutions meet customer needs, industry standards, safety regulations, quality requirements, and cost-efficiency objectives
  • Lead projects independently, handle clients, and guide/develop team members
  • Work within defined parameters to resolve moderately complex issues through immediate action or short-term planning

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in electrical engineering or related field, from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum of 12+ years of experience with Degree or 15+ years with Diploma in EHV/HV AIS & GIS Substation design
  • Good understanding of power system components, including transformers, switchgear, and protection systems
  • Knowledge of IEEE/IEC codes, safety in design/EHS aspects, and AC substation industry engineering practices
  • Experience with EHV/HV AIS & GIS substation design for 132 kV and above GIS/AIS substation engineering
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to explain complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams and with clients
  • Ability to guide/groom teams and execute projects according to client/project requirements
  • Ability to expand competency domains and take on new learning challenges
  • Flexibility to travel globally
  • Knowledge of renewable energy integration
  • Optional: FACTS project engineering, including STATCOM, FSC, and Synchronous Condenser
  • Optional: HVDC/FACTS integrated project applications
  • Optional: Competency with CANECO, ETAP, CDGES, or equivalent tools
  • Optional: Working experience with 3D design tools
