About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Install and commission drive systems, power systems, automation systems, or dynamic positioning systems at customer sites during ship construction
- Troubleshoot problems during scheduled port visits or at sea, determine resolutions, and implement corrective actions
- Ensure the technical integrity and proper installation and commissioning of equipment
- Develop commissioning and maintenance procedures
- Execute customer training
- Perform on-site project management and technical leadership duties
- Resolve customer issues and provide customer satisfaction
- Identify sales opportunities for service agreements, spare parts, training, and upgrades
- Provide on-call support for customer service calls
- Assist in the growth and direction of the North American business
- Support engineering teams working on customer upgrade projects
- Complete timely service reports and administrative requirements
- Perform work aboard vessels in shipyards or offshore within GE/customer safety guidelines
- Work extended hours or overtime during peak periods and emergencies
- Travel domestically or overseas to customer sites for extended periods
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline from an accredited college or university; OR Associate's Degree or related discipline with a minimum of 5 additional years of related industry experience; OR school diploma/GED equivalency with a minimum of 8 years of related industry experience
- Ability and willingness to travel 85% of the time on short notice
- Must be physically fit to board vessels offshore
- Potential offshore workers must be able to pass Helicopter Underwater Egress Training (HUET) and an offshore survival course
- US Person with the ability to achieve security clearance for Department of Defense projects
- Background in a customer-facing position within a Service environment
- Ability to execute increasingly complicated assignments requiring engineering skill, creative ability, and independent judgment
- Strong computer proficiency and technical aptitude
- Ability to utilize MS Office applications
- Ability to work in construction-type environments and comply with safety requirements and PPE usage
- Legally authorized to work in the United States
- Successful completion of a drug screen, as applicable
