About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Drive ideation, design, development, verification, documentation, component creation, and delivery of key AAA applications and components
  • Develop power system control and management solutions for smart grid applications
  • Create functional and system design and architecture specifications
  • Model systems using Matlab, Simulink, and Opal-RT
  • Design, develop, and validate smart grid algorithms
  • Define test and simulation environment scenarios with the V&V team
  • Design GUI views for application interaction and V&V testing
  • Develop application function blocks for embedded automation, monitoring, analytics, forecasting, management, control, and protection systems
  • Test and validate solutions, including debugging
  • Act as project technical leader or Scrum Master as needed
  • Lead technical development for key AAA roadmap initiatives
  • Propose, develop, and demonstrate innovative techniques
  • Contribute to Grid Solutions Innovation Lab activities
  • Support business development, project pipeline development, and delivery activities
  • Perform system design specifications and model verification
  • Support commissioning for COE and operations teams
  • Propose improvement programs for the team development roadmap
  • Work with customers to identify and resolve power systems issues using software solutions
  • Use customer feedback to prioritize future developments
  • Participate in technical visits, workshops, demonstrations, conferences, trade shows, and customer/stakeholder training
  • Report to the Protection and Control System Engineering Leader
  • Deliver AAA products on time, within quality and cost targets
  • Communicate progress and issues openly and proactively

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Degree in renewable energies, electrical engineering, computer science, or similar field from an accredited university
  • Strong industrial experience developing and delivering power systems management, automation, protection and control applications, including FAT/SAT
  • Experience with application specification, design, development, and testing in Linux and Windows environments using Agile processes
  • Proven R&D experience in power systems, automation, protection, and control technology development
  • Demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders throughout the R&D process
  • Software development tools, programming languages, code-checking, version control, Jira, SVN, and Git
  • Proficiency in Matlab, Simulink, Matlab Embedded Coding, and automated testing
  • Experience with 61131 PLC development systems desired
  • Experience developing in Linux and MS Windows environments desired
  • Experience in software release management and SDLC
  • Genuine interest in solving complex power system problems
  • Strong analytical, technical communication, reasoning, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience in multicultural, distributed work environments
  • Team communication and knowledge-sharing ability
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Successful completion of a drug screen, as applicable
