About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Develop, implement, and qualify non-destructive testing methods and procedures for GE Vernova Gas Power and other GE Vernova businesses as needed
  • Support Gas Turbine, Steam Turbine, Aeroderivative, and HRSG product lines through assigned projects
  • Work closely with NDE engineers to develop, improve, or clarify NDE processes and procedures
  • Interface with Design Engineering to specify NDE techniques and limits for components
  • Qualify NDT techniques at suppliers and in-house
  • Support training activities for qualification work
  • Interpret NDE results and disposition materials based on inspection findings
  • Define state-of-the-art NDE methods and develop capabilities for unique component inspection challenges
  • Apply materials science and processing technology knowledge to select NDE methods for detecting material and processing defects
  • Support process development and continuous improvement to reduce defects or improve inspection capability
  • Review and disposition component deviation requests, documenting engineering judgment after technical review
  • Author specifications and procedures and review drawings
  • Perform failure analysis and forensic engineering to determine root causes using NDE, fractographic, and metallographic techniques
  • Investigate environmental, material, and material-processing contributions to failures
  • Participate in materials development programs for new product offerings and corrective actions addressing customer issues

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum of a BS degree in Materials Science, Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Non Destructive Evaluation, or related field
  • Prior 1+ years experience in a relevant field through full-time work experience, co-op/internship, or graduate research
  • Experience with optical, acoustic, magnetic, and/or thermal sensor technologies is desired
  • Experience with material processing technologies such as steelmaking, forging, casting, joining, or fabrication is desired
  • Centrally certified (ASNT or equivalent) in one or more NDT Methods, or qualifications and willingness to pursue certification is desired
  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector or welding inspection experience is desired
  • Familiarity with engineering drawings, material specifications, inspection procedures, or industry standards is desired
  • Exposure to programming, data analysis, automation, CAD, CNC equipment, PLCs, or inspection software is desired
  • Mechanical aptitude and structured approach to troubleshooting and experimentation
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety, quality, and technical integrity
  • Ability to work effectively with engineers, technicians, manufacturing personnel, quality teams, and suppliers
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Demonstrated ability to document, plan, market, and manage programs that further business knowledge, understanding, and capability
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Access to U.S. export-controlled information requires authorization from the U.S. Government, if applicable
  • Ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information, if applicable
  • Successful completion of a drug screen, as applicable
