About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Own wing-to-wing Machine Head mechanical product issues for assigned RCAs
  • Lead, execute and resolve assigned RCAs on Machine Head mechanical systems from technical and operational perspectives
  • Drive root-cause analysis for timely and robust issue resolution
  • Address emerging issues and reduce Major Component Upgrades for Machine Head components
  • Define and implement fast-track containment for assigned RCAs
  • Build relationships with Fleet Performance, NPI Engineering, Field, Sourcing, Parts, Quality and Customer Solutions teams
  • Identify and secure RCA team roles and functions, escalating when required
  • Track RCA impact on availability, identify failure rates and lead efforts to reduce failures in major components
  • Track assigned RCA KPIs, especially On Time Delivery
  • Serve as the main technical point of contact for RCA-related communications with internal and external customers
  • Support escalated PAC cases and create standard dispositions for RCA-related PAC cases
  • Support RCA-related SAFER Actions and define general approaches to reduce unnecessary future rework
  • Partner with Sourcing on vendor recovery of supplier-caused defects
  • Support commercial and technical supplier discussions to resolve field quality issues
  • Provide regular RCA progress and action-plan updates in Quality Suite
  • Define RCA budgets for purchase orders and evaluate cost/benefit impacts
  • Own the purchase-order workflow for approvals and issuance
  • Maintain thorough RCA documentation in the Fleet Engineering folder
  • Own RCA reports and provide updates at every step
  • Mentor junior RCA team leaders

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical engineering
  • Proven knowledge and/or minimum 10 years of experience leading/supporting mechanical RCAs using 8D, Shainin, Lean, Six Sigma or similar methodologies
  • Proven extensive work experience, preferably in the wind industry
  • Previous deep technical understanding of Yaw systems, Drivetrain, Bearings, Gearbox, HPU and other auxiliary systems used within Machine Head environments
  • Detailed understanding of the product development cycle
  • Detailed understanding of the 8D problem-solving process
  • Proven RCA technical expertise and project closure
  • Technical versatility and ability to learn technology outside one's specialty
  • Ability and willingness to travel 10% of the time
  • Ability and willingness to climb a wind turbine
  • Root Cause Analysis Training or Certification (8-D, Apollo, Shainin or similar)
  • Statistical literacy and familiarity with quality concepts and tools, including Six Sigma BB and Lean
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Product reliability mindset
  • Experience with internal and/or external customer communications, particularly product quality topics such as RCAs
  • Prior team management experience, direct or indirect, with influential leadership experience
  • Ability to understand business processes, issues and concerns and translate them into solutions
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, multicultural and highly matrixed environments
  • Master's Degree or above in Engineering from an accredited university or college
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Successful completion of a drug screen, as applicable
