About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Direct control, protection, and integration strategies for HVDC and AC substation projects
  • Lead and mentor a geographically dispersed team of over 50 Secondary Engineers across multiple sites
  • Oversee design, development, and integration of control and protection systems for high-voltage DC and AC substations
  • Own and continuously improve the Control & Protection Design process
  • Allocate resources, optimize subcontractor use, and implement development plans to address skill gaps
  • Build relationships with internal and external engineering partners
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams for seamless project execution
  • Manage project budgets and support tendering activities
  • Establish performance metrics to drive team excellence
  • Promote knowledge sharing and best practices
  • Manage the full Secondary Engineering lifecycle from tendering and design through final integration
  • Foster operational excellence, process digitalization, and continuous improvement using Lean methodologies

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • 15+ years of engineering experience in EPC environments within Transmission & Distribution
  • Proven experience managing large engineering teams of 50+ engineers, including remote and multi-site leadership
  • Advanced expertise in substation control system design, electrical distribution, ancillary services, and industry standards
  • Extensive background in HVDC technology, ACS, FACTS, and digital control systems
  • Strong analytical, leadership, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including stakeholder presentations
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritize safety and quality, and deliver results on time
  • Fluent in English; German language skills are a plus
  • Willingness to travel internationally
  • Advanced knowledge of control and protection systems for HVDC and AC substations
  • Proficiency in digital control system software, electrical distribution, telecom, and monitoring solutions
  • Familiarity with industry-standard engineering tools and project management methodologies
  • Ability to manage design budgets and support tender processes with a focus on safety, quality, and compliance
