About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Oversee the overall technical solution that meets customer requirements
- Capture requirements and perform gap analysis
- Define schematic diagram requirements for control and protection systems
- Produce detailed design documentation, drawings, test specifications, and test reports
- Prepare substation single-line diagrams, protection single-line diagrams, protection lists, and specifications
- Clarify specifications and refine technical solutions with customers
- Prepare principal diagrams covering interlockings, protection actions, polarities, and HVDC-specific functions
- Monitor manufacture of control and protection cabinets and supervise factory tests
- Follow standard design practices, engineering reviews, and guidelines
- Prepare technical specifications for cabling and fiber optics, cable lists, and cable schedules
- Interface with equipment suppliers and review in-house and external contractor designs and engineering data
- Ensure design projects are undertaken by competent personnel and subcontractors, reviewing designs created by others
- Investigate technical problems and establish corrective procedures and actions
- Prepare bills of material for LV equipment
- Prepare responses to customer comments on technical submittals with project management
- Attend technical meetings with customers, contractors, and consultants
- Prepare design calculations, including load lists, power consumption, and heat dissipation
- Define control panel requirements and produce detailed control-system design documentation using standard design blocks
- Produce panel electrical schematics, wire/cable schedules, routine test specifications, general assembly drawings, and bills of materials
- Oversee control-system testing and FAT witnessing
- Assist site installation and commissioning activities
- Share engineering information and promote open dialogue
- Ensure proper documentation of technical data for assigned projects and tasks
Requirements
What you’ll need- Engineering degree in electrical or electronic engineering
- 7 years minimum experience in an EPC project environment in the T&D, Power Gen, or Oil & Gas industries
- At least 2 projects as an engineer responsible for the business
- Good experience in project management and budget management processes, quality, planning, R&O
- Motivated to evolve in an international environment and aligned with the company's key values
- Good leadership, listening and communication skills
- Experience in functional team management
- Good experience in managing technical interfaces and systems integration
- Solid knowledge of conventional substation control system design
- Solid experience in the design of control and protection cabinets, preferably in high voltage substation or power plant environments
- Good knowledge of the control and protection functions of high voltage AC substations
- Good knowledge of ancillary services engineering in a substation environment and understanding of design/commissioning of secondary systems
- Knowledge of networking and telecommunications
- Experience with engineering tools such as AutoCAD, Engineering Base or Microsoft Visio
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems
- Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs
- Established project management skills
