About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform insulation coordination studies to determine temporary and transient overvoltage stress on equipment and surge arrester energy ratings
- Perform power system simulations, including steady-state and EMT studies, for projects and tenders
- Conduct network studies to confirm correct interaction between equipment, control systems, and the wider network
- Calculate overall project losses and report them to the client
- Provide guidance and coordinate engineering tasks to meet project and tender requirements
- Take technical responsibility in areas of expertise
- Identify and evaluate EHS risks and implement practical measures
- Develop and maintain automated Python workflows for large-scale, multi-scenario batch simulations in PSCAD
- Identify opportunities to optimize system study tools and techniques using advanced AI/ML methods
- Develop reusable, scalable pipelines connecting engineering simulation software with AI/ML frameworks for model validation, testing, and EMT/RMS studies
- Bridge traditional HVDC system studies and data science while ensuring AI/ML insights remain grounded in foundational study principles
Requirements
What you’ll need- Engineering degree (or equivalent) including power systems and power electronics subjects
- Proven professional experience and technical expertise in power system engineering, preferably in HVDC System Engineering
- Knowledge of system tools such as PSCAD, PSS/E, DigSilent, RTDS, and MATLAB
- Knowledge of insulation co-ordination and main equipment characteristics for HVDC
- Expertise in computer mathematical and simulation tools applied to power system engineering activities
- General understanding of HVDC Valves and their control systems
- Strong understanding of Python and its application in power system tools
- Ability to work to deadlines with high quality, sense of urgency, and delivery
- Good technical communication and presentation skills
- Strong problem-solving and root cause identification skills
- Precise documentation skills
- Ability to work as a team player and independently
- Preference for knowledge of HVDC/FACTS design and systems studies
- Preference for knowledge of relevant IEC/IEEE standards
