About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Defend lawsuits filed in New Jersey courts
- Handle other first-party insurance defense matters
- Research laws and prepare legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda
- Render opinions on liability, damages, and value as requested by the Claims Department
- Prepare and handle pleadings, motions, and discovery
- Handle depositions/examinations before trial and examinations under oath
- Defend assigned matters by trial or dispositive hearing, as applicable
- Travel to trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings, and conferences as required
Requirements
What you’ll need- 2 to 6+ years of litigation experience in insurance defense and/or personal injury REQUIRED
- Juris Doctor degree REQUIRED
- Admission to the New Jersey Bar REQUIRED
- Must be licensed in good standing to practice law in New Jersey
- Must meet and maintain licensing requirements including mandatory Continuing Legal Education (CLE) requirements where applicable
- Must be able to travel as required, including to trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings and conferences
- Must be able to document files in a clear, concise, professional written manner
- Must be able to follow complex instructions, resolve conflicts or facilitate conflict resolution
- Strong organization, priority-setting, and multitasking skills
- Must be able to learn and apply large amounts of technical and procedural information
- Civil litigation experience preferred
- Insurance defense-related litigation experience preferred
- Professional communication skills in person, by telephone, and in written correspondence/email
- Must be commutable to the Marlton, NJ office location
