About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Defend lawsuits filed in Tennessee courts
- Handle other first-party insurance defense matters
- Research laws and prepare legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda
- Render opinions on liability, damages, and value as requested by the Claims Department
- Prepare and handle pleadings, motions, and discovery
- Handle depositions/examinations before trial and examinations under oath
- Defend assigned matters by trial or dispositive hearing, as applicable
Requirements
What you’ll need- 2-6+ years of experience in related field litigation experience REQUIRED
- Juris Doctor degree REQUIRED
- Admission to the Tennessee Bar REQUIRED
- Must be licensed in good standing to practice law in Tennessee and meet and maintain licensing requirements including mandatory Continuing Legal Education (CLE) requirements where applicable
- Must be able to travel as required, including to attend trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings and conferences
- Must be able to document files in a clear, concise, professional written manner
- Must be able to follow complex instructions, resolve conflicts or facilitate conflict resolution, and demonstrate strong organization, priority-setting and multitasking skills
- Must be able to learn and apply large amounts of technical and procedural information
- Civil litigation experience preferred
- Insurance defense-related litigation experience preferred
- Must be able to communicate professionally in person, by telephone, and through written correspondence/email
