About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Defend lawsuits filed in Texas courts and handle other first-party insurance defense matters
  • Research laws and prepare legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda
  • Render opinions on liability, damages, and value as requested by the Claims Department
  • Prepare and handle pleadings, motions, and discovery
  • Handle depositions/examinations before trial and examinations under oath
  • Defend assigned matters through trial or dispositive hearing, as applicable
  • Travel to trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings, and conferences as required

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 7+ years of litigation experience in insurance, defense, and/or personal injury
  • Juris Doctor degree
  • Admission to the Texas Bar
  • Licensed in good standing to practice law in Texas
  • Must meet and maintain licensing requirements, including mandatory Continuing Legal Education (CLE) requirements where applicable
  • Ability to travel as required, including to trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings, and conferences
  • Ability to document files in a clear, concise, professional written manner
  • Ability to follow complex instructions, resolve conflicts or facilitate conflict resolution, and manage organization, priorities, and multiple tasks
  • Ability to learn and apply large amounts of technical and procedural information
  • Civil litigation experience preferred
  • Insurance defense-related litigation experience preferred
  • Professional communication skills in person, by telephone, and through written correspondence/email
