About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Build high-performance, low-maintenance, zero-downtime platforms and applications
  • Help drive GEICO's insurance business transformation toward a technology organization focused on engineering excellence
  • Work with the Sr. Staff Engineer and other Senior Engineers to innovate and build new systems
  • Improve and enhance existing systems and identify new opportunities to solve critical problems
  • Lead project execution and a technical roadmap to increase product delivery velocity and unlock new engineering capabilities
  • Provide technical and thought leadership across one or multiple enterprise areas
  • Collaborate with product managers, team members, customers, and engineering teams to solve complex problems
  • Ensure the quality, usability, and performance of solutions
  • Coach junior engineers and strengthen the technical expertise of the engineering and product community
  • Share best practices and improve processes across teams
  • Determine and support resource requirements, evaluate operational processes, and measure outcomes
  • Demonstrate adaptability and sponsor continuous learning
  • Provide on-call and operational support

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Good hands-on experience building complex distributed systems to process large-scale telemetry and architectures supporting scale and performance
  • Great knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes
  • Advanced knowledge of at least one OOP language such as Java, Go, or Python
  • Experience building distributed systems
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to lead projects and interact with clients and sponsors regularly
  • Experience with continuous delivery (CI/CD) and Infrastructure as Code
  • In-depth knowledge of computer science data structures and algorithms
  • Experience solving analytical problems with quantitative approaches
  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced, startup-like environment
  • Willingness to work in both fast development and operations environments
  • Knowledge of developer tooling across the software development life cycle
  • Experience operating in cloud-native environments such as Azure and AWS
  • Deep knowledge of DevOps pipelines, Helm charts, and Kubernetes
  • 4+ years of professional experience in software development using a modern programming language such as C++, Java, Python, or Golang
  • 3+ years of experience with architecture and design
  • 3+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, or hybrid data centers
  • Experience with APISIX or other API gateways is a plus
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent education or work experience
  • Must be willing to take on-call and operational support
