About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Develop and drive the overall technical roadmap for Digital Personal Auto Sales
  • Collaborate with executive leadership, technology teams, and cross-discipline stakeholders on platform-service strategy
  • Influence partners and leadership to achieve technical-roadmap milestones
  • Provide thought leadership for GIA Platform and modernization of legacy platform components
  • Lead design and architecture of resilient, scalable platform services across on-premises and cloud environments
  • Champion software development best practices and safe deployment processes
  • Write feature code and automated tests, raise and review pull requests, manage CI/CD pipelines, and provide production support
  • Develop and maintain incident-response plans for disaster scenarios across partner integrations
  • Lead production-readiness assessments and operational-excellence initiatives
  • Perform technical reviews, architecture, software development, code reviews, testing, and production-readiness reviews
  • Evaluate and implement modern technologies and tools for partner integrations, compliance, and visibility
  • Stay current with industry best practices and emerging technologies
  • Advise technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Mentor and coach engineering and product communities
  • Analyze costs and forecasts for business plans
  • Determine resource requirements, evaluate operational processes, measure outcomes, and sponsor continuous learning

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Fluency in at least one modern language; Go preferred and Java a plus
  • Proven track record designing, implementing, and maintaining highly scalable, available, and reliable production systems
  • Understanding of security best practices and data encryption technology
  • Understanding of SQL and NoSQL databases, stateful services management, and storage
  • Understanding of networking, caches, key/value stores, load balancing, global load balancing, queues, DNS, and CDN
  • Deep knowledge of DevOps practices, methodologies, and principles
  • Understanding of on-premises and public cloud-based network, compute, and storage technologies
  • In-depth knowledge of hybrid cloud architecture, IaaS and PaaS technologies, Kubernetes, cloud efficiency, and observability
  • Strong background in incident management
  • Ability to create incident response playbooks, runbooks, incident triaging strategies, and post-incident analyses
  • Experience with open-source management and monitoring tools
  • Experience with infrastructure automation, tooling, and configuration management frameworks
  • Hands-on Kubernetes container management experience
  • Familiarity with cloud security best practices and compliance standards
  • Excellent leadership, mentoring, problem-solving, analytical, communication, and operational-excellence abilities
  • Proven track record leading and building software in large and complex organizations
  • 8+ years of professional experience in software development
  • 6+ years of experience with architecture and design
  • 6+ years of experience with open-source frameworks
  • 4+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, or other cloud service providers
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, or equivalent education or work experience
  • Ability to work in the United States; GEICO will consider sponsoring a new qualified applicant for employment authorization
