About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead the technical architecture and delivery of AI solutions spanning multiple functional and technical boundaries
  • Define and own the vision for scalable, robust, and compliant AI/ML solutions
  • Drive high-visibility, cross-functional initiatives from ideation through production
  • Develop advanced AI solutions for fraud detection, prevention, and investigation across claims, payment processing, underwriting, policy management, and customer service
  • Surface and shape high-value AI/ML initiatives aligned with strategic business goals
  • Provide architectural leadership and establish standards for scalability, reliability, observability, compliance, and cost efficiency
  • Lead end-to-end delivery including model design, data pipelines, feature stores, evaluation, deployment, A/B testing, and monitoring
  • Establish KPI frameworks, experimentation mechanisms, and causal inference approaches to quantify business impact
  • Prototype and productionize novel ML, GenAI, and optimization techniques
  • Set technical direction for multi-quarter research initiatives and build evaluation frameworks
  • Ensure reproducibility and responsible AI; drive cross-functional adoption and shepherd patents
  • Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Data Platform, Governance, Legal, and Operations
  • Mentor junior and senior scientists and elevate coding, testing, documentation, and reproducibility standards
  • Present complex technical topics to technical and non-technical audiences, including senior stakeholders
  • Design and implement AI-driven fraud detection and prevention solutions within the car insurance domain

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • BS in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field
  • At least 6+ years of professional experience delivering applied AI/ML solutions in production, including leading cross-functional initiatives with enterprise impact
  • Expertise in machine learning, large language models (LLMs), and agentic AI systems for fraud detection and prevention
  • Strong proficiency in Python and SQL
  • Deep experience with PyTorch, TensorFlow, and Scikit-learn
  • Experience establishing KPI frameworks, experimentation, and causal analysis
  • Experience driving alignment and adoption across product, engineering, and business teams
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with GenAI and LLMs, including prompt design, RAG, evaluation strategies, guardrails, red-teaming, and human-in-the-loop workflows
  • Research experience in computer science, statistics, machine learning, operations research, or related fields
  • Familiarity with insurance operations and model governance in regulated environments
  • Candidates must be open to Chevy Chase, Maryland; Palo Alto, CA; or New York City, NY
