Shape multi-channel communications infrastructure connecting claims adjusters with customers through letters, email, SMS, push notifications, and fax
Partner with engineering teams, product leaders, UX, and business stakeholders to design, build, and scale communication platforms
Automate communication workflows and generate compliant correspondence at volume
Provide technical architecture and leadership across orchestration, channel delivery, and document platform projects
Architect, build, and deploy scalable, resilient, performant, secure, and highly available cloud systems
Lead event-driven and orchestration-heavy workflows, rule evaluation, asynchronous processing, and Claims service integrations
Build RESTful APIs and microservices
Develop and maintain internal web applications for engineering and business tooling
Establish best practices for reliability, testing, deployment, rollback, monitoring, and operational readiness
Integrate metrics, distributed tracing, structured logging, and alerting
Lead post-incident reviews and systemic improvements
Collaborate with product, engineering, operations, and business partners to translate needs into technical designs and measurable outcomes
Use AI coding assistants daily for design, implementation, testing, and refactoring
Champion AI-assisted software development, establish prompts and workflows, coach engineers, and set quality, security, and accountability standards
Mentor engineers through coaching, pairing, reviews, and architectural guidance
Guide architecture, experimentation, and delivery across multiple teams
Drive innovation in modern Java, cloud-native patterns, and AI-assisted development while prioritizing production excellence

Requirements

What you’ll need

8 or more years of professional software engineering experience
2 or more years in a technical leadership capacity
Deep expertise in Java 17+; Java 21 preferred
Expertise in Spring Boot 3.x
Demonstrated proficiency with AI-assisted software development using GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or comparable AI coding assistants
Experience integrating AI coding assistants into requirements analysis, design, coding, testing, documentation, and issue support
Experience helping teams adopt AI coding assistants with standards for code quality, security, and ownership
Experience building scalable, resilient, secure, maintainable production systems
Expert knowledge of microservices, distributed systems, and cloud-native architecture using Azure, AWS, or GCP
Competency in service design, performance optimization, reliability engineering, observability, and SRE practices
Experience building RESTful APIs and web applications using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
Track record of improving reliability and scalability through architecture, performance, and operational enhancements
Ability to collaborate across teams
Experience mentoring engineers
Excellent communication skills and ability to influence technical direction
History of delivering measurable business outcomes
Nice to have: event-driven architecture and workflow orchestration, Kafka, Temporal, reactive programming, asynchronous systems, SRE or platform engineering, tracing/log aggregation/alerting, AI-assisted development standards, A/B testing, feature flags, migrations, regulated industries, open source, document generation, communications platforms, and applied Gen AI
