About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Maintain, configure, and ensure reliable operation of IT infrastructure, cloud platforms, and computer systems
Participate in research and development to continuously improve systems and meet IT business needs
Identify and resolve IT infrastructure problems that could cause work disruptions
Work with multiple clients, providing expert technical support and ensuring systems are secure and performing well
Design, implement, and maintain Windows-based systems and infrastructure
Work closely with the IT team to ensure system stability, security, and performance
Design, implement, and maintain server and cloud-based computing solutions
Analyze and optimize system performance and identify areas for improvement
Create and maintain documentation for system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides
Stay current with emerging systems engineering technologies and trends
Apply cybersecurity knowledge, including firewalls and system-security best practices
Support disaster recovery and restoration of access and functionality to IT infrastructure
Perform some work onsite at client locations throughout the NYC metro area

Requirements

What you’ll need

A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience)
At least five years of proven experience as a Senior Systems Engineer, with a track record of successfully delivering complex IT projects
Ability to communicate effectively with organizational personnel and clients
Customer service orientation, including patience, positive customer-friendly attitude, active listening, empathy, and professionalism
Ability to adapt easily to rapid changes in requests, processes, and procedures
Ability to set goals and prioritize tasks
Objective, logical, rigorous, and detail-oriented approach to work
Ability to resolve problems promptly and accurately and prevent future occurrence
Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and competing priorities
Maintains confidentiality and uses sound judgment when discussing technical or sensitive matters
Strong desire to learn new technologies and maintain current technical skills
Highly motivated self-starter and independent worker able to produce high-level results with minimal supervision
Must work well in a team environment and participate in working meetings
Hybrid position based in the NYC area, with occasional client visits integral to the role
Must maintain a clean and presentable work environment for video calls when working from home and in the office
Proficiency in systems administration
Understanding of network communication protocols
Knowledge of configuring hardware components
Ability to deploy and manage software solutions
Excellent scripting skills
Familiarity with system security practices
Experience with cloud platforms
Knowledge of On-Prem Exchange, M365, cybersecurity applications, AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform, cloud software, Google Workspace, PowerShell, DNS infrastructure, VDI administration, MFA administration, MDM solutions, NOC software, PSAs, router/switch implementation, VoIP systems, disaster recovery, scripting or programming, cloud servers, and RMM
