About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Own investigation and resolution of complex infrastructure incidents and escalations
Administer and troubleshoot Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS and DHCP
Support Microsoft 365 and Entra ID environments, including identity, authentication, MFA and Conditional Access
Troubleshoot VMware and/or Hyper-V virtualization environments
Diagnose networking issues involving firewalls, VPNs, VLANs, routing, switching and connectivity
Support backup, disaster recovery and business continuity systems
Plan and execute infrastructure migrations, upgrades and modernization projects
Perform root-cause analysis and implement or recommend preventive changes
Use PowerShell, scripting, automation and other tools to improve reliability and efficiency
Create and maintain technical documentation
Work directly with clients, vendors and other GEM engineers during projects and incidents
Provide occasional onsite support at client locations in the New York City metropolitan area

Requirements

What you’ll need

Substantial hands-on experience supporting production IT infrastructure and resolving complex technical problems
Strong experience with Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS and DHCP
Strong experience with Microsoft 365 and Entra ID
Experience with identity, MFA and Conditional Access
Experience with VMware vSphere/ESXi and/or Microsoft Hyper-V
Experience with server and storage infrastructure
Experience with backup and disaster recovery
Experience with firewalls, VPNs, VLANs, routing and switching
Experience with network and infrastructure troubleshooting
Experience with system hardening, EDR, MFA and related security technologies
Strong client communication skills and ability to explain complex technical issues to technical and nontechnical audiences
Strong hands-on proficiency across most listed technologies, with deeper expertise in several areas
Broad technical capability, demonstrated troubleshooting depth and ability to work independently across multiple systems
Willingness and ability to provide onsite support when required in the New York City metropolitan area
Legally authorized to work in the United States
Experience with one or more of Microsoft Exchange Server and hybrid Exchange environments, Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops, Citrix NetScaler/ADC, advanced VMware infrastructure, advanced networking and firewall troubleshooting, Veeam or similar backup and disaster recovery platforms, PowerShell scripting and automation, and infrastructure migrations and major upgrades
MSP, technology consulting firm or multi-client environment experience strongly preferred
