About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Partner directly with customers to discover and document business, application, data, security, and technical requirements
Translate requirements into cloud architectures and actionable engineering plans
Design and implement custom AWS and Azure solutions for application and data hosting
Support scientific and research platforms such as REDCap and Posit
Engineer end-to-end cloud solutions incorporating compute, storage, databases, networking, identity and access management, security, monitoring, backup/recovery, application architecture, and other required services
Develop and maintain Terraform modules, configuration, scripts, and automation
Leverage standard reusable services and patterns where practical
Design and integrate DevOps and CI/CD capabilities for application deployment, infrastructure delivery, security scanning, testing, monitoring, and lifecycle management
Evaluate technical alternatives, dependencies, security risks, operational impacts, scalability, maintainability, and long-term consequences
Drive assigned solutions through delivery independently
Collaborate within an Agile Cloud DevOps team
Participate in sprint planning, technical design reviews, and code reviews
Coordinate with security, infrastructure, application, and other engineering teams
Obtain and maintain Public Trust and complete onsite fingerprinting

Requirements

What you’ll need

BS/BA and 8+ years of relevant IT experience, or equivalent experience
Strong hands-on AWS and Azure experience across compute, storage, databases, networking, identity, security, monitoring, and related cloud services
Experience designing and implementing cloud solutions for applications and data
Knowledge of application architectures, availability, scalability, resiliency, security, and lifecycle requirements
Strong Infrastructure as Code experience using Terraform
Experience developing custom Terraform modules, leveraging reusable modules, and working within shared Git-based code repositories
Experience with cloud networking, identity and access management, security, and DevOps/CI/CD practices
Experience with automated infrastructure and application deployment, testing, security scanning, and monitoring
Experience independently owning technical solutions from requirements gathering and architecture through implementation, troubleshooting, documentation, and transition to operations
Strong consulting, communication, and analytical skills
Experience engaging customers and translating requirements into technical architectures
Experience evaluating tradeoffs and downstream impacts
Experience delivering solutions within an Agile sprint-based environment
Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust
Ability to complete onsite fingerprinting at a designated facility
Preferred: experience with scientific, research, healthcare, or data-intensive cloud applications, including REDCap, Posit, or comparable technologies
Preferred: experience with containerized and cloud-native architectures, managed cloud services, application modernization, cloud migrations, and automation using Terraform, Ansible, Python, PowerShell, or similar technologies
Preferred: relevant AWS, Microsoft Azure, Terraform, DevOps, or architecture certifications
Preferred: experience supporting federal government, healthcare, life sciences, or similarly regulated environments
