About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Join GDIT’s SMAVCS4 team supporting the Environmental Protection Agency and its Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention
- Interface with the EPA Product Team and developers
- Install, configure, administer, manage, and document MySQL, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB in clustered master/replica configurations
- Use HAProxy for load balancing, failover, and high availability across multiple nodes and environments
- Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve PL/SQL, stored procedure, and Oracle database package issues in real time
- Advise management on integration of IT programs
- Lead database performance monitoring and system health engineering and architecture activities
- Establish database architecture, high-availability, disaster-recovery, and optimization standards
- Manage database assets, inventories, and related documentation
- Provide expert DBA services for production, staging, and development databases
- Perform physical database design with senior developers and data modelers
- Support automated and ad-hoc reporting, ETL processes, and data pipelines
- Provide technical expertise, mentorship, and cross-training
- Analyze user experience and recommend design changes to improve user experience and query performance
- Maintain database security, backup and recovery, and performance monitoring standards
Requirements
What you’ll need- 3+ years of related experience
- US citizenship required
- Must be able to obtain EPA Public Trust Level 4
- Experience working in Linux environments
- Strong command-line experience, including Unix shell scripting, PowerShell, and AWS CLI
- Experience administering SQL technologies such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, and Oracle
- Experience administering NoSQL technologies such as MongoDB
- Experience configuring and managing HAProxy/Keepalived for database load balancing, connection pooling, and automated failover routing
- Experience managing automated database backups, repositories such as pgBackRest, and backup retention strategies using AWS S3 object storage
- Ability to perform complex command-line scripts and SQL queries
- Ability to work without a managed database service
- Advanced knowledge of database security, backup and recovery, and performance monitoring standards
- Ability to prioritize and complete varied workloads with critical deadlines
- Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Superior communication skills and professional demeanor
- Ability to communicate technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Ability to manage equipment and services in remote locations
- Ability to work effectively in a remote team environment
- Ability to perform well under pressure

- Organized workflow and high attention to detail
- Experience with MongoDB OpsManager highly preferred
- Familiarity with Oracle Database Appliances is a plus
- Familiarity or experience with Documentum or enterprise content management database backends is a plus
- Experience working on Federal Sector Contracts beneficial
- Professional certification(s) beneficial
- Familiarity with DevOps and ITIL Agile processes beneficial
