About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Design, develop, test, enhance, and maintain enterprise web applications using Java, Spring Boot, and related technologies
Develop scalable, secure, and maintainable application architectures
Implement and support RESTful APIs and SOAP-based services for system integrations
Participate in system design reviews, code reviews, and technical solution assessments
Apply DevSecOps principles throughout the development lifecycle
Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins and/or GitLab
Automate build, testing, deployment, and release management processes
Integrate automated unit testing, integration testing, code quality analysis, and security validation
Implement and maintain SAST, DAST, dependency scanning, and vulnerability scanning controls
Promote secure coding practices and enterprise security compliance
Design and optimize database interactions using relational databases and SQL
Manage database schema versioning and deployments using Flyway
Develop migration strategies, baseline configurations, and rollback procedures
Collaborate with database administrators and architects on performance and data integrity
Troubleshoot application issues across development, testing, and production environments
Perform root cause analysis and implement long-term corrective actions
Monitor application performance and identify improvement opportunities
Support incident response, operational stability, and continuous service availability
Support enterprise integration initiatives, including COTS product integrations
Collaborate with architecture, infrastructure, security, and operations teams
Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily standups, retrospectives, and reviews
Prepare and maintain technical designs, deployment documentation, and operational procedures
Evaluate and help implement AI-enabled capabilities such as intelligent automation, summarization, classification, predictive analytics, anomaly detection, and AI-assisted decision support

Requirements

What you’ll need

15+ years of related experience listed in job qualifications
18+ years of hands-on software development experience at lead level
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience
Senior-level hands-on experience developing Java-based web applications
Strong expertise with Java 8+
Strong expertise with Spring Boot and the Spring Framework ecosystem
Experience with REST API development and integration
Experience with SOAP services and integrations
Experience with relational databases and SQL
Experience with Flyway database migration/version control
Experience with Jenkins and/or GitLab CI/CD pipelines
Demonstrated DevSecOps experience, including automated build, test, deployment, and security processes
Experience supporting and maintaining production applications in large-scale enterprise environments
Strong understanding of application security principles and secure coding practices
Experience troubleshooting complex technical issues and conducting root cause analysis
Ability to work independently on complex technical initiatives with minimal supervision
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance and pass a government background screening with detailed forms and fingerprinting
U.S. residency for the specified prior five-year period under USPS security clearance requirements
Less than 10% travel required
