About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Serve as the strategic lead and subject matter expert on HR policy and compliance
  • Influence, design, and direct business processes as statutory regulations require
  • Lead projects ensuring practices and procedures across campuses and departments conform to University HR policy and local and federal regulations
  • Assess existing policies and practices and develop new HR policies and procedures
  • Manage statutory compliance, reporting, and document management
  • Identify compliance risks and provide risk-mitigation guidance to university leadership
  • Partner with HR colleagues, including HR Business Partners, Classification and Compensation, HCM, Talent Acquisition, and Benefits
  • Partner with HCM Services to review work performed by HR coordinators and provide recommendations and strategic direction on compliance training programs
  • Ensure compliance with employment regulations in all states where the University is an employer of record
  • Serve as HR's primary authority and point of contact for departments with regulatory oversight responsibilities
  • Work with university stakeholders, legal counsel, and departments on matters including FMLA, unemployment, and protection of minors

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 5 to 7 years of broad-based human resources and compliance experience
  • Advanced knowledge of human resources policies, regulatory requirements, and employment records maintenance and management
  • Demonstrated experience managing and directing large-scale projects serving diverse constituencies
  • Superior writing skills
  • Ability to stay informed on changing regulatory obligations and proactively analyze and mitigate their impact
  • Strong analytical and communication skills
  • Technical facility with HRIS systems and databases
  • Prior experience with Workday is preferred
  • Preference may be granted to candidates with prior policy and compliance experience in a large organization
