About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Receive delinquency reports and verify loan status
- Perform loan and account file maintenance
- Contact delinquent-account holders by telephone, personal contact, and correspondence
- Negotiate payment arrangements and discuss financial counseling, legal actions, extensions, consolidations, and repossessions
- Continue collection efforts through write-off, bankruptcy, or attorney referral
- Make early contact with members and co-makers and keep them informed of loan status
- Use collection tools, including suspense and delinquent-loan activity reports
- Address member questions and complaints and calm irate members
- Determine reasons for delinquencies and pursue permanent solutions
- Perform skip tracing and update contact information
- Monitor insurance coverage for collateral
- Perform General Ledger, recoveries, repossession, foreclosure, and Loss Prevention transactions
- Refer accounts to the Bankruptcy Specialist and recommend charge-offs
- Maintain accurate activity reports and document all collection actions
- Research late and potentially late loan accounts to identify Credit Union errors
- Keep management informed of activities, progress, and significant problems
- Stay informed of changes to collections policies, procedures, and legal requirements
- Build positive working relationships aligned with the organization’s purpose, mission, and core values
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School or better
- 1–2 years of related experience
- Knowledge of collection procedures and related laws and regulations
- Understanding of financial products and policies and familiarity with default and enforcement clauses
- Basic understanding of U.S. Bankruptcy Code
- Computer proficiency with MS Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Internet, and Email
- Intermediate interpersonal skills

- Ability to comply with Credit Union policies, procedures, and legal requirements
