About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Participate in all steps of mortgage loan origination, including reviewing new loan applications, conducting interviews, and processing preliminary documentation
- Discuss loan alternatives, credit criteria, interest rates, and loan documentation professionally
- Prepare and issue conditional loan approvals
- Perform follow-up work and notify members of loan approval or denial
- Explain loan denials clearly and precisely
- Counsel members on money management and financial matters, especially after denials, and offer alternatives where applicable
- Resolve loan application problems, including credit report issues, low appraisals, low salary levels, and high debt ratios
- Review information for completeness and accuracy and clarify missing or questionable information
- Resolve or refer requests and problems promptly and courteously
- Stay informed about lending standards, legal requirements, local real estate, and competitive market trends
- Assist Mortgage Loan Processors with effectively processing loans through closing
- Keep management informed of area activities and significant problems
- Promote additional Georgia United retail and consumer lending products and services
- Build strong, positive, and productive working relationships across the organization
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school diploma or better
- 2 years of mortgage loan origination and processing experience
- Knowledge of mortgage loan processing functions
- Knowledge of mortgage-related requirements, procedures, and underwriting criteria
- Solid math and calculation skills
- Knowledge of RESPA, HMDA, ECOA, FCRA, Flood Determination, Reg Z, Ability to Repay, and Interagency Appraisal and Evaluation Guidelines
- Must meet qualifications necessary to maintain an NMLS license and meet SAFE Act requirements
- Computer proficiency with MS Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, Internet, and Email
- Ability to communicate professionally and effectively, verbally and in writing
- Ability to work with confidential and time-sensitive information in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
- Attention to detail, accuracy, and production
- Excellent records and file management skills in a paperless work environment
- Ability to provide excellent member service and remain calm and courteous in stressful situations
- Detail-oriented and able to complete tasks thoroughly
- Team player who works well as a member of a group
