About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Serve as the most senior post-collections support personnel in the field
  • Oversee engineering, compliance, and technical support for the assigned region/area
  • Ensure post-collections operations comply with permits, rules, regulations, and corporate policy
  • Coordinate with area management, field operations, environmental compliance managers, and regulatory agencies
  • Establish corporate policy regarding post-collections operations with executive leadership
  • Manage region landfill gas managers and ensure compliance with air regulations
  • Coordinate capital budgeting and manage capital projects ranging from landfill cell construction and capping to leachate treatment, gas collection, energy, and closure projects
  • Coordinate renewable natural gas project development
  • Coordinate heavy-equipment budgeting and procurement
  • Participate in project planning, budgeting, accounting, contract negotiation, legal and regulatory interactions, operations, maintenance, and environmental due diligence
  • Manage permitting, reporting, recordkeeping, public hearings, community engagement, noncompliance events, corrective actions, and regulatory policy updates
  • Produce annual Whole of Life Engineering Rate Packages with outside consultants
  • Evaluate environmental and financial risks for potential acquisitions
  • Drive continuous improvement, technology advancement, operational efficiencies, and best practices
  • Provide technical training, relief support, and expertise on special projects and committees
  • Promote and manage environmental health and safety standards, compliance systems, risk controls, and safety culture

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Science related field
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in environmental management, landfill operations and/or engineering
  • Knowledge of state and federal environmental rules and policies including RCRA, CERCLA, NPDES, NEPA, Title V, NSPS, TSCA and state solid waste programs
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Ability to supervise multiple internal staff
  • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy
  • Ability to work with consultants, contractors, regulators, and internal staff
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Advanced Excel spreadsheet and information-monitoring skills
  • Ability to manage multiple multifaceted construction projects and mitigate risks to budget and schedule
  • Exceptional organizational and prioritization skills
  • Strong independent time management and ability to manage multiple projects
  • Ability to lift approximately 50 lbs
  • Ability to work in extreme cold and hot weather conditions
  • Ability to travel
  • Valid work authorization in the country where the job is located; visa sponsorship is not provided
