About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Oversee engineering, compliance, and technical support for assigned regional post-collections operations
- Ensure operations comply with permits, rules, regulations, and corporate policy
- Establish corporate policy regarding post-collections operations with VP Post Collections and VP EH&S
- Coordinate communications with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies
- Manage Region Landfill Gas Managers and landfill air-regulation compliance
- Coordinate Renewable Natural Gas project development at assigned landfills
- Coordinate and manage annual capital budgets ranging from $40 million to over $100 million
- Coordinate, manage, and implement landfill cell construction, capping, leachate pre-treatment, landfill gas, energy, and closure projects
- Coordinate heavy-equipment budgeting and procurement with fleet leadership
- Manage environmental permitting, reporting, recordkeeping, public hearings, community engagement, and closure/post-closure activities
- Manage notices of violation, corrective-action planning, and risk mitigation
- Monitor regulatory and policy changes and provide technical support
- Coordinate Whole of Life Engineering Rate Packages for assigned sites
- Perform environmental due diligence for potential acquisitions
- Drive continuous improvement, technology advancement, and operational efficiencies
- Provide technical training, relief support, and special-project expertise
- Promote and manage EHS standards, safety culture, compliance systems, and risk controls
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Science related field
- 10+ years of progressive experience in the field of environmental management, landfill operations and/or engineering
- Knowledge of state and federal environmental rules and policies including RCRA, CERCLA, NPDES, NEPA, Title V, NSPS, TSCA and state solid waste programs
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing
- Ability to supervise multiple internal staff
- Attention to detail and high level of accuracy
- Ability to work with consultants, contractors, regulators, and internal staff
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
- Advanced Excel skills, including creating spreadsheets and monitoring information
- Ability to manage multiple multi-faceted construction projects and mitigate risks to budget and schedule
- Exceptional organizational and prioritization skills
- Strong independent time management and ability to manage multiple projects
- Ability to lift approximately 50 pounds
- Ability to work in extreme cold and hot weather conditions
- Willingness and ability to travel
