  • Provide technical leadership in planning and executing mechanical engineering projects for water utilities, local government and resources industry clients
  • Lead and/or contribute to high-quality multidisciplinary technical outcomes
  • Lead technical design development of mechanical systems and equipment
  • Apply engineering best practices, client standards, and Australian and/or international standards
  • Develop detailed project plans covering scope, timeline, budget and resource requirements
  • Collaborate with clients to define requirements, address concerns, provide technical expertise and deliver water/wastewater solutions
  • Lead and/or contribute to winning work and market-led innovative offerings
  • Manage time and resources to achieve project financial targets for new work and chargeable time
  • Foster development of junior mechanical engineers regionally and nationally

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Relevant qualification in Mechanical Engineering, recognized in Australia
  • 8+ years’ experience as a mechanical engineer working on water/wastewater treatment or transfer projects
  • Experience writing technical specifications and/or datasheets for mechanical equipment for municipal and industrial water and wastewater treatment
  • Sound understanding of hydraulic principles and hydraulic system design, including system hydraulics, pump calculations and pump selection
  • Experience with metallic and plastic piping design for above-ground or below-ground installations
  • Knowledge of loading considerations for in-line mechanical equipment, including API 610/650 nozzle allowable loads
  • Experience in detailed mechanical design of water/wastewater treatment plants
  • Knowledge of Australian and international pumping and piping design codes
  • Knowledge of water/wastewater industry best practice and/or municipal water authority design standards
  • Knowledge of Australian and international mechanical design codes, including the ASME suite
  • Working knowledge of WANDA hydraulic modelling software (highly desirable)
  • Working knowledge of CAESAR II stress analysis software (highly desirable)
  • Experience across all design phases, from concept through detailed design (highly desirable)
  • Prior application of Water Corporation design standards (highly desirable)
  • Ability to manage competing priorities across concurrent tasks, proposals or projects
  • Proven ability to build positive relationships and communicate effectively
  • Strong writing and communication skills for reports, proposals and client liaison
  • Willingness and ability to lead junior team members and mentor graduate professionals
